Location is very important. If your cat is eliminating in inappropriate places, it could be because the box is located in an area that is inaccessible or too noisy. The box should be placed where your cat can access it at all times and in an area where your cat feels safe using it. Typically, cats prefer a quiet and private place to do their business, separate from where they dine and sip water, but not too far away from the common areas of your home. While laundry rooms might seem the ideal location, the sound of the machines in operation could spook your cat at the most inopportune time, which could lead to an aversion to using the litter box in that area again.
